Best Exercise for Burning Fat Made Even Better

People who have weight to lose or fat to burn have been searching the world over for the best exercise to burn fat.  Frankly, I don't believe that finding the perfect exercise is all that difficult.  As a matter of fact, I believe that one exercise wins this competition hands down:  burpees.  If you are not familiar with burpees they could be described as the exercise from hell.  In fact, every athlete groans when their coach mentions that they are going to do burpees for conditioning.

Burning Fat Takes Work

You see the problem is that too many people want to burn fat the easiest way possible.  There is no easy way to burn fat.  If you are like the average person who has weight to lose, you have been searching for awhile.  You have tried certain things only to end up at the same place.  You have performed complex workout programs and that didn't work.  You have bought DVD workout programs that ask you to carve out at least an hour of your day and you have ended up right back where you started.  All the while the world's best exercise for burning fat sits on the shelf.

Burpee: Great Fat Burning Exercise

Burpees are not easy to perform.  When you do one of them you think to yourself that this is not so bad but when the repetitions begin to build up you realize why people are not willing to put in the work.  Burpees are difficult.  Burpees are exhausting.  Burpees cause your heart to race.  Burpees cause you to go weak in the knees.  But burpees are effective.

What is a burpee?  It is a full body exercise that incorporates numerous movements into one exercise.  You start out in a standing position.  Then you drop to a squat, kick your legs back to a plank position, do a pushup, tuck your knees back in and then from a squating position jump as high as you can.  I know my description may not be all that clear, so look at the video below for a demonstration.

Burpees and Interval Training

So let's break the burpee down as to why it is such an effective exercise.  It involves the legs via the squat and the squat jump.  It works on the core with the kickbacks.  It works the chest and triceps with the push up.  And it provides a cardio vascular workout unlike any you have ever been a part of.  All of this leads to a tremendous number of calories being burned.  And of course, a tremendous burning of calories leads to great fat loss.  Most estimates place the number of calories burned per hour of burpees at around 600 calories if you weigh about 150 pounds.  If you weigh more you can obviously rachet that up.

But let's get serious you cannot perform an hour straight of burpees.  Most likely you will struggle to do 45 seconds if you are not in decent shape.  So I would recommend that you intersperse your burpees with one of the following exercises to allow your heartrate to stay in an elevated zone but not so high where you think you can't continue.

Jog in place
Jump rope
Mountain Climbers
Kettlebell Swings (light weight)

This will provide you with an interval type training.

But maybe you are thinking to yourself that you don't think you could do the same exercise over and over again.  Well with that in mind, below you will find a few variations on the burpee that will make the best exercise for burning fat even better and hopefully will allow you to overcome any boredom you may experience.

Burpee with a Pull Up

Burpee with Broad Jump

Burpee with Box Jump

Burpee with Power Snatch

Burpee with Power Clean

Burpee with Lateral Jump

Use Your Imagination

Ok, I think you get the point.  Use your imagination.  We could go on putting up one video after another.  You can incorporate anything into a burpee.  You can do barbell rows, thrusters, backward jumps, multiple push ups, sandbag cleans, muscle ups, etc.  The possibilities are endless.  But you do need to get out there and do them.  Start small with chunks that you can handle and then build up over time.  If you commit to burpees they will never leave your fat burning or conditioning program.  Once you see the results, you will always want to do them.  Now hit the floor and get busy!
