Is It Possible to Burn 1000 Calories in a Single Workout?
78Can you burn 1000 calories in a single workout? I have recently seen this question asked a few times recently because as a result of the release of a new workout product a couple of weeks ago. I have never even considered trying to burn so many calories in an individual workout, at least, not a sensibly timed workout.
I was curious about their claim so I signed up to receive their free promotional pdf that promised to give you a workout that would burn up to 600 calories in a single workout.
1000 Calorie Workout?
Now if something like this is possible without killing yourself in the process then I am all for it. I am not a fan of cutting back on calories too drastically to eliminate fat from your body. The cutting of calories will potentially slow down your metabolism. If that is the case, then a portion of the calories that you cut out of your diet will do you no good because your body is no longer burning calories at the same pace. Did that make any sense? Sometimes I ramble on and may not say things as clearly as I would like. In other words, if you cut 700 calories out of your diet each day and you slowed your metabolism down where it burned 200 less calories throughout the day then you would only get the benefit of a 500 calorie cut. Yet you will still retain the crankiness of an individual who is constantly hungry because you aren't allowed to eat anything.
Hey I will admit that I like to eat. I do so in moderation. I can't imagine cutting it much further. I wouldn't be very pleasant to live with. I am guessing that some of you are the same way. So you can understand why I would be thrilled if they were a way to burn 1000 calories during a workout.
Lose 3 - 5 Pounds of Fat Each Week?
They claim you can lose about 3 – 5 pounds each week on this program. I don't have that much wait that I want to lose but I could afford to drop 10 – 15 pounds. Fifteen pounds would put me within 4 lbs of what I weighed when I graduated from college and I was in great shape then. Of course, you would need to perform this workout in conjunction with the diet that they recommend.
They call the workout R-Quattro. I think it simply means the four Rs but calling your workout the Four Rs doesn't sound nearly as cool. The four Rs are Reps, Resistance, Rest, Rounds. The sample workout was based on three workouts per week. The first workout serves as a baseline workout. For the second workout you will increase the number of reps performed (same exercises) and increase the resistance. For the third workout you will increase the number of rounds and decrease the amount of rest between the rounds.

1000 Calorie Workout = 600 Calories Burned + EPOC
Now to be fair they are not saying that you can burn 1000 during a particular workout. They are attempting to burn 600 calories during the workout in such an intense fashion that you body will burn the remaining calories through EPOC. EPOC stands for Excess Post Exercise Oxygen Consumption. This is the process where your body continues to burn calories even after exercise is over because your body is trying to return to a state of homeostasis.
So I tried their workout. I am still alive but barely. I wasn't able to do the baseline workout with the required rest. It was a very difficult workout. It will definitely get your heart pumping. They have one segment of the workout that they called a Heart Accelerator. I was frankly wondering why they needed that since my heart rate was off the chart as it was. I thought it was more like a Heart Exploder.
But hey it is a great workout. I will continue with some of the workouts and try to get to the point where I can do them. It will be a challenge for someone who is closer to 50 than he is to 40.

Tnx fo the info, I have just been hitting the road, from smoker to non smoker, gradually from 1km to 12km not in two months, still going strong, but not losing much weight, it all boils down to the diet really, this will have to change from tomorrow
